WINE CLUB NO MORECANNING SO CALLED WINE CLUB By JACK SALERNO I have never been a member of a “WINE CLUB.” In fact, before starting our winery, William and I had only been wine tasting twice, (though there was the time in 1990 when Nancy (wife) and I took a little trip to Napa Valley and let’s just say we weren’t impressed) - quite frankly we were disappointed by most of the wines, excluding reserve wines. But I was amazed by the number of wine club offers and the vast club levels available. At the time I thought, “Why on God’s green earth would anyone want to be a club member, how boring is that?!” Just sell me the wine at a discount price and as long as it’s good, I’ll continue to buy it. As far as attending events...that’s cool if you have a resort-like setting, otherwise... But, it’s about the wine, isn’t it? A number of wine clubs, (I’ve heard this from your mouths too), like to unload their slow moving wines on the rank and file. You love Syrah, yet the winery is sending half your shipment in their “Wonderful Merlot-Gold Medal Winner at 2001 County Fair.” As a wine club member, why be force-fed wines that aren’t your favorites? You buy too much wine to not get what you want! |
Never Boring Wine SyndicateAll that said, here’s the deal that William and I think will be best for all, us included. We like to call it the “Yes You Can!” plan. It premiers this November, and will change the way Manzanita Creek runs its wine club forever. We have named it “Yes You Can!” and here are the details:
